Friday Five: #GivingTuesday

Welcome to the Friday Five, a roundup of the best your Alumni Association and other UMD communities have to offer. From the latest events to fun facts, here are essentials in five categories for you to check out this weekend.

1. What's Happening
#GivingTuesday at the University of Maryland: Tuesday, Nov. 30

- #GivingTuesday - Nov. 30

It’s almost here - #GivingTuesday is Nov. 30. On this global day of generosity, donate to the Programs and Events Fund to help your Alumni Association continue essential professional programs for you and fellow Terps, such as Terrapins Connect, Mission Collaborative, Career Week, the Terp Entrepreneur Conference and more! - Terp Writer’s Corner: Briana A. Thomas M.A. ’17

"Briana A. Thomas M.A. ’17 has been published in Washingtonian Magazine, the historic Afro-American newspaper, and the Washington Post throughout her journalism career. She earned a Master of Journalism degree from the University of Maryland, and if you’re interested in learning more about the history of Washington D.C. and the infamous U street corridor, read on below and check out her book, 'Black Broadway.'" 3. A Little Fun

In "Hookman," debuting tomorrow at The Clarice, college freshman Lexi (Isabella Benning '22) is haunted both by the loss of her best friend and a hook-handed tormentor.
- "Hookman" - Through Nov. 21

Catch one of the last performances of “Hookman” at the Clarice Performing Arts Center, an ode to the now-vintage campy teen horror movies of the 1990s, like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The show, part of the university's Arts for All initiative highlighting intersections across the arts, science and technology, uses the latest equipment and design thanks to the Maya Brin Institute for New Performance. Read more on Maryland Today, and get tickets for "Hookman" here.
