Danita
D. Nias is the assistant vice president of alumni relations and development at the University
of Maryland, College Park, a position she has held since February
1999. In this capacity, Ms. Nias manages the activities of the alumni
association, which represents more than 230,000 graduates of the University
of Maryland. In addition, she oversees the management of the university's
Annual Fund, the primary developmental initiative for annual gifts
to the university.
Paramount to the day-to-day management activities of the office of
alumni relations for Ms. Nias is directing the multi-million
dollar capital campaign that will finance the campus's new Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
Prior to her present commitment to the University of Maryland,
Ms. Nias was the senior associate athletics director for four
years.
Her responsibilities included oversight of the day-to-day operations
of a $30 million intercollegiate athletics enterprise.
Ms. Nias serves on the board of the Council of Alumni Association Executives, is a member of the CASE Commission on Alumni Relations and is a trustee of the French International School in Washington, D.C.
A 1981 graduate of the University of Maryland, Ms. Nias earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Robert
H. Smith School of Business. She also earned a Master of Social
Science degree from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship
and Public Affairs. She resides in Silver Spring, Md., with
her husband, Michael, and their son, James.
