Welcome Fellow Terps,
When I was in grade school, I used to take my classroom globe, close
my eyes and give it a spin. As it whirled, I would reach out and stop it with a fingerwherever it landed, I tried to imagine what the people there were doing, how they lived.
On behalf of the University of Maryland Alumni Association, I invite you to take this game and change it into a life-enriching event.
Spin your globe, close your eyes and put your finger down. No matter what continent it lands on, we can deliver you there. In Asia, we can take you to Vietnam, China or Tibet. In Europe, you can float down the Danube, tour Northern Italy or sip wine in Normandy. Peek through the doorway of the Middle East on a trip to Turkey; catch a glimpse of ancient South American culture with a walk up the terraces of Machu Picchu; explore the United States along a path plotted by Lewis and Clark.
More information on these and other adventures can be found on the following pages.
As in past years, each group of traveling Terrapins will be accompanied by experienced guidesin some cases Maryland faculty members. The university's best teachers stand ready to open your mind to new knowledge, just as they did during your days on campus.
For many of us, getting away from it all isn't as easy as spinning a globebut I can assure you from personal experience that an alumni association tour is well worth the effort.
Sincerely,
Danita D. Nias 81
