Kenya Migration
August 24-September 3, 2006

Itinerary:

Day 1: Depart for Amsterdam.

Day 2: Arrive in Amsterdam and connect to Nairobi. Transfer to the Nairobi Serena.

Day 3: Fly to Mpala to spend the afternoon at the research center. Drive to Sweetwater’s Tented Camp, located on a private ranch, with views of snow-covered Mt. Kenya. This evening join a night game drive with the chance of seeing all of the “Big Five” animals (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard). (B,L,D)

Days 4–5: Enter the Samburu Game Reserve of Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. Appreciate not only the magnificent scenery, but also the wildlife characteristic of this region. Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Yellow Baboon, Guenther’s Dik-dik and Reticulated Giraffe thrive in this harsh but picturesque landscape. This is the land of the Samburu, a pastoral people distinguished by women who wear layers of beads in choker fashion around their necks, and men made famous by their colorful adornment and high-jumping dances. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. (B,L,D)

Day 6–9: Fly across the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, and find terrain that is classic Africa, with golden savannah grasses and more lions than any other park in Kenya. It takes three full days to see all there is to see, including cheetah, the many prides of lion that live in the marshes, topi antelope and the elusive leopard. A resident naturalist will answer questions about the wildlife and habitat. You may chose to take an optional balloon safari over the Masai Mara or visit Lake Victoria. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Take a final game drive before a short flight to Nairobi where day rooms will be available. Enjoy a farewell dinner prior to your flight to Amsterdam. (B,L,D)

Day 11: Arrive in Amsterdam and connect with flight home.
